A Cased Reichsfeuerwehr-Ehrenzeichen 1. Klasse (2nd Model) am Band 1938. The 1st Class Fire Brigade Decoration went from a pin back 1st Model (December 22nd 1936) to suspended on a ring - 2nd Model (January 30th 1938). Instituted January 30 1938, it was awarded, only in exceptional cases to individuals who fought a fire through their outstanding performance while threatening their lives. It is constructed out of a die stamped tombak base that has been gold fire gilded and contains red, white and black enamel work. The obverse features a centrally placed black mobile on a white round backing soldered to a Greek style cross that has red flames emanating out of each arm on a white background with a quarter circle going through each arm that reads: “Für Verdienste Im Feuerlöschwesen” (For Merit in the Fire Brigade). The reverse features a full flat back. To the top is a soldered on ball loop and ring. The award comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained black leather. To the front is a round steel, spring loaded closure button. To the back is a steel, staggered, piano hinge. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a black fibrous felt material that outlines the award. The interior top is constructed out of a pearl white silk material and has an underlying pad. The interior hinge is torn. It comes with 5 ½ inches of white, red and purple ribbon. The case has the odd scuff/scratch. The case measures approximately 2 3/8 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches deep and 13/16 of an inch thick. A rare and high honor award!
