An Order of the German Eagle Star with Swords (1939 Verdienstkreuz des Ordens vom Deutschen Adler mit dem Stern mit Schwerter) in Issue Case by Gebr. Godet & Co. of Berlin. The Order of Merit of the German Eagle, was instituted May 1st 1937, and was awarded by Hitler to foreign nationals who had made a meritorious military services rendered to the German Reich on the recommendation of the Reich Minister for Foreign Affairs. It is constructed out of a multi-piece die struck 900 silver content base that has been gold fire and silver gilded and contains white enamel work all behind a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features two centrally placed crossed broadswords above a white Maltese style cross that has four national eagles (Hoheitszeichen) between each arm, above a six pointed silver star. The silvered reverse correctly features two rivets, a hinge, catch and pin that is marked “900 21” (silver content designation | Gebr. Godet & Co., Berlin). All of the components continue to work well. It measures 62mm wide by 76mm tall. Beautiful enamel work, gilding and detail! The award comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a smooth red simulated leather. To the very top is a gold National eagle and an exterior thin line border. To the front is a gilded steel closure clasp. To the back are two piano hinges that are covered in the simulated leather. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a thick black fibrous felt material. It has a round recessed portion for the award and hinge, pin and catch assembly. The interior top is constructed out of a pearl silk material with, in gold: “Stern des Deutschen Adlerordens mit Schwerter” behind an underlying pad. It shows only the slightest wear, soil and age throughout. The case measures approximately 132mm wide and deep and 34mm thick. A beautiful assembly, available for you today!
