A private purchase Kriegsmarine “Schlachtschiff Scharnhorst” Tellermütze für Mannschaften by August Geiger of Kiel. It is constructed out of a navy blue doe skin wool, with a black silk and gold gilt machine embroidered cap tally and navy blue piping. The very front features a die stamped, tombak based, gold gilded navy cap eagle above a national tri-color multi piece cockade. There are four navy blue twisted ropes (two to the very back and two on 45 degree angles right near them) that hold the machine embroidered gold and black “Schlachtschiff Scharnhorst” cap tally. The interior has a lightly crazed leather sweat bank with a pearl white rope running through it that ends at a bowtie to the back. The interior also features a royal blue silk lining. Underneath the clear diamond moisture shield (70% intact) it is maker marked, in gold: “A G Kiel Ges. Gesch. Aug. Geiger Dänischestr. 24”. A nice cap!
