A Luftwaffe Frontflug-Spange für Nacht-Jäger in Gold mit Anhänger by Rudolf A. Karneth & Sohne of Gablonz a.N. The Short Range Night Fighter Clasp in Gold was instituted August 14th 1942 and awarded for 110 combat missions. The Star Pendant for SRNF (1944) clasps was awarded upon completion of 250 combat missions. It is constructed out of two pieces of die struck zinc / tombak that has been gold gilded / black painted. The obverse depicts a centrally placed stamped golden upward pointing ‘flying arrow’ that is surrounded by a black painted laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a stagnant swastika and is flanked by four round cut outs and two nine piece oak leaf clusters. The star pendant hanging below features a centrally placed star flanked by two sets of two berries and three laurel leaves. The semi-full back reverse is maker marked: “R.K.”. It also shows a recessed portion with an off centered rivet, a crimped on steel flatwire catch, crimped on steel sheet metal hinge and steel coke bottle pin. It displays wonderful detail throughout and the gilded highlights are superb! It measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch tall (without the pendant). A beautiful piece!
