Spanish “Blue Division” Russian Campaign Medal

Medalla de la campaña de Rusia. The government issued Spanish “Blue Division” Russian Campaign Medal 1941, was instituted November 9th 1943, and was awarded to all Spanish volunteers who gave six months of frontline service, or had taken part in three acts of arms, or had been wounded in action in the fight against bolshevism in Russia. It is constructed out of a die struck nickel base that has been burnished and contains black enamel work. The obverse features an Iron cross above three arrows and a National Spanish Eagle with outreached wings surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath, all underneath a Spanish crown. The reverse features the Kremlin and reads: “Rusia 1941”. To the top is a downward pointed triangular ring that holds 5 inches of multi colored rayon ribbon that features the national colors of Spain and the Third Reich. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall. Beautiful enamel work and detail!
