Medaglia Commemorativa della Campagna di Spagna (Type A) by Fratelli Lorioli-Milano. The Commemorative Medal for the Spanish Campaign, instituted June 6th 1940, was assigned to members of the Kingdom of Italy who participated with actions and services to the campaign against the Spanish Republic. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed and burnished. The round shaped obverse features a naked warrior on horseback with a raised sword in his hand, attacking a Winged Victory of Samothrace who is holding a laurel wreath in her hand and is all above a serpent, hammer and sickle. The reverse reads: “Guerra por la Liberacion y Unidad de España 17 Julio 1936” (War for the Liberation and Unity of Spain 17 July 1936), below a winged head and above the Spanish Coat of Arms , which is all in front of the outline of Spain. It is marked “M” below one of the pillars. The top has an integral downward pointing triangular loop which holds the 5 3/8 inch red, yellow and black ribbon. The award measures 1 5/16 inches in diameter. A great decoration!
