A Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter 2. Stufe Silber by L/11 (Wilhelm Deumer). These were awarded to mothers for exceptional merit to the German nation, who conceived and raised three to five children and exhibited probity, exemplary motherhood. These crosses were introduced by decree in Berlin on 16 December 1938 by Chancellor of Germany (Reichskanzler) Adolf Hitler. These lapel version were offered, for private purchase. This two piece award is constructed out of die struck nickel silver base, that has been bronze washed and includes blue, black and white enamel work. The obverse is in the form of a Christian cross and shows; a centrally place black static swastika above a white base, that is surrounded by “Der Deutschen Mutter” (The German Mother) and is in front of a sunburst pattern, emanating out of each arm of the cross. The reverse shows a flat back with a recessed: “16. December 1938” along with Hitler's facsimile signature and “L/11”. The enamel work remains 99%+ intact and the wash is beautiful! The cross measures 5/8 of an inch wide by ¾ of an inch tall. To the top is a bow tie blue and white rayon ribbon that has a stitched on gilded brass pin, hinge and catch assembly. The award comes housed in a matching LDO marked case. The case is constructed out of a pressed paper that has been glued together and covered in a simulated maroon leather covering. The interior is marked LDO.So I tried to get the pin out to photo the back and it's in there tight. I did not want to force it so I left it in there. You will have to pull the insert out to get at it and I did not want to. IMHO this likely was never removed.
