Eickhorn Flat-bow Derfflinger Personalized Field Marshal Sword

Rare pattern named after a famous German leader. The plated blade rates Exc being bright but suffering some spotting and hits to the cutting surface like kids played "swords" with it. The tip is slightly bent. The blade is stamped with the mid period Eickhorn maker mark. This pattern is illustrated in Angolia's reference pg 82 and known as Model 1735. The black enamel painted dent-free scabbard has oxidation spots, scuffs and evidence of wear. The hilt is a gilded aluminium based example with surface oxidation wear to the high areas. It suffers some gilt loss where you can see the metal base under where it has flaked off. The top of the hilt expertly covers the tang with a oak leaf that is cast there. The flat bow "P" guard has a beauty dot and curl motif. This pattern is continued everywhere including the ferrel and back-strap. The obverse languet features a closed-winged eagle. The reverse is Jeweller personalized, "HDM". The grip is black celluloid without chips or cracks. It is wrapped with tight triple aluminium wire that really stands out against the black celluloid. Some of the wire as loose. A bargain direct from the Vet's family.
