A Verdienstauszeichnung für Ostvölker 1. Klasse in Gold im Etui. The Eastern Peoples valor and merit award, instituted July 14th 1942 was awarded to members of the Eastern peoples who served in the service of the Wehrmacht and excelled in exemplary duty. The award is constructed out of a die struck, zinc base that has been gold gilded. The obverse depicts a centrally placed flower that is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath that is encircled by a rope pattern, over two crossed broad swords and a sunburst pattern. The reverse shows a semi-hollow back with the correct gilded; soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on steel round plate flatwire catch and steel coke bottle pin. The gold gilded remains 80%+ intact. This piece continues to display nice detail throughout! It measures approximately 1 15/16 inches wide and tall. The award comes housed in is appropriate issue case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained black leather (Lederimitat). To the front is a round plated steel spring loaded push button. To the back is a plated steel, staggered, piano hinge. To the very top is a golden foil 1st Class Ostvolk Award with swords. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a black felt material that outlines a pin, hinge and catch assembly. The interior top is covered in a pearl velvet above a pad. There is in excellent condition with only minor wear to the one corner. The case measures approximately 2 11/16 inches wide and deep and 1 inch thick. A wonderful complete piece!
