A Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps Bronzen Plakette 1939 im Etui by Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen. Awarded for 3rd place in the 1939 gliding competition for Gruppe 7: Elbe-Saale (Dresden) in Laucha. It is constructed out of a die stamped zinc base that has been bronze wased. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed NSFK emblem, which features; the Greek god ‘Icarus' behind a mobile swastika (to his legs) below an arched “NSFK”, on a smooth round backing, with “28. 5.-4. 6. 1939” also arched above him and all surrounded by “8. Laucha-Segelflugwettbemerch 1939 - NSFK Gruppe 7 (Elbe-Saale)”. The full back reverse reads: “3. Preis Wertungsgruppe: Übungssegelflugzeuge” along with a small maker mark to the bottom “Brehmer Markneukirchen”. The medallion measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter. The bronze wash has mostly been absorbed by the zinc, 40% remains. The medallion comes housed in its appropriate issue case. A typical wood and pressed covered in a simulated black leather. The interior lid is pearl velvet. The base is blue felt. Some glue reminisce to the hinge. The hinge and press button work well. It measures: 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 x 7/8. A multitude of variations to collect!
