A Luftwaffe Frontflugspange für Kampffliegerr in Gold im Etui. The Gold Bomber Clasp, Kampf und Sturzkampfflieger (Heavy, Medium and Dive-Bomber), was awarded for 110 combat missions It is constructed out of two pieces of die struck tombak / nickel-silver that has been gold gilded / chemically blackened and covered in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse depicts a centrally placed blackened downward pointing ‘winged-bomb’ that is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a stagnant swastika and is flanked by four round cut outs and two nine piece oak leaf clusters. The semi-full back reverse shows a recessed lathed portion with an off center rivet, a soldered on tombak round wire catch, soldered on tombak barrel hinge and sturdy tapered tombak pin. It displays wonderful detail throughout, the blackened arrow is a perfect contrast to the sparkling gilded highlights! It measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch tall. The award comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard that is covered in a blue simulated grained leather covering. The top reads, in gold foil Gothic style script: “Frontflugspange für Kampffliegerr gold”. The piano hinge and press button are lightly oxidized and continue to work well. The case measures approximately 3 ½ inches wide by 1 5/8 inches deep by 7/8 of an inch thick. It is in wonderful condition with only minimal wear. A gorgeous assembly you are sure to be happy with!
