A Ehrenzeichen für Deutsche Volkspflege 3. Stufe im Etui by Gebr. Godet & Co. of Berlin. This was awarded for merits in the field of the People's Welfare, the Winter Relief, the care of the sick and wounded in peace and war, the rescue, the maintenance of German nationality and the care of German national comrades abroad. The award is constructed out of a two pieces of die stamped tombak that had been fire gilded with black and white enamel work that was finished in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features a gold outlined white Greek style cross behind a black national eagle clutching a golden wreathed black mobile swastika in its talons. The full back reverse is gold and has a slightly recessed portion. There is one minor enamel chip between the wing tip and eagles head. Attached to the top is a soldered loop and ring. It measures 1 9/16 inches square. Accompanying the award 4 3/8 inches of the appropriate red and white rayon ribbon. It comes housed in the lid. The award and ribbon come housed in their appropriate case. The case is made of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, grained, red leather covering. The top features a gold foil thin lined border. To the front is a “mushroom head” spring loaded, closure button. To the back is a magnetic, staggered, internal piano hinge. Both function well. The interior of the top lid of the case is lined in a blue velvet and has an underlying pad. The top has a separate belt which reads, in gold foil “Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege 3. Stufe”. The bottom interior of the case is made of a blue felt material that outlines the award. The bottom of the case is maker marked: “Gebr. Godet Berlin & Co. Berlin W8 Charlottenstr. 55”. It shows the odd scuff. The case measures 2 9/16 wide by 2 13/16 long by 1 wide. A complete piece just right for your collection!
