A Hitlerjugend “Dem Sieger” Baden Sportfest Bronze-Plakette 1939 mit Etui by B. H. Mayer of Pforzheim. This plaque would have been awarded to members of the HJ who performed rigorous athletic drills and met strict physical fitness standards. It is constructed out of a die struck finezink base that has been bronze washed and finished in a lacquered coating. The rectangular shaped obverse features (from top to bottom) a Hitler Youth Eagle, with open wings clutching a broad sword in one of its talons and a mallet in the other with a mobile swastika on its chest, beside “1939” an above “Dem Sieger” (The Winner) and “Sportfest Der Badischen Hilter-Jugend” (Sports Festival Baden Hitler Youth). The full back reverse is maker marked “B. H. Mayer, Pforzheim” to the bottom. The bronze wash has been absorbed by the zinc. It measures approximately 2 ¼ inches wide by 3 inches tall. The plaque comes housed in its appropriate issue case. It is a typical wood and pressed cardboard covered in a simulated maroon leather. The interior lid is covered in a blue velvet. The base is covered in a blue felt material and outline the plaque. The bottom is maker marked: “B. H. Mayer’s Hof - Kunstprägeanstalt Pforzheim”. The case shows typical age and one corner is ripped.
