DVL Westfalen Flight Tournament Medallion 1935

An Award Medallion for the 1st Westphalian Flight Tournament held September 22nd 1935 in Bielefeld Westfalen. It is constructed out of an injection molded steel base that has been silver plated and black burnished. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed flying biplane with “D-EHRO” written on its side, flanked by two other biplanes, underneath the Westfalen Coat of Arms and above the DLV emblem, all on top of a cloud scene and surrounded by “1. Westfälisches Flug Turnier der Luftsport-Landesgruppe 10 Westf. Bielefeld am 22. Sept. 1935” (1st Westphalian Flight Tournament of the Luftsport-Landesgruppe 10 Westf. Bielefeld on 22. Sept. 1935). The reverse shows a semi-hollow back. The award measures 3 1/8 inches in diameter. The award medallion comes housed in its appropriate issue case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard that is covered in a brown simulated snake skin covering. The interior-top features a blue velvet covered top, underneath an underlying pad. The interior-base shows a blue felt covered pressed cardboard base, that has a recessed portion for the medallion. The front features a round steel spring loaded press button. The back has two small piano hinges. All of the components continue to work well. Only minimal wear throughout. The case measures 4 ½ x 4 ½ x 13/16. A rare award!
