A Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern im LDO Etui. The 2nd Class War Merit Cross with Swords was awarded to soldiers for exceptional service in battle above and beyond the call of duty. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed and lacquered. The obverse depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring. The award comes housed in a rare LDO issue case. The case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in simulated grained maroon leather (Lederimitat). The interior lid reads: “LDO” within an oval and rectangular border. The bottom interior of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a marron fibrous felt material that outlines the cross. The hinge continues to work well. There is one minor tear to the edge. The case measures approximately 2 9/16 wide by 2 9/16 deep by 5/8 of an inch thick. If you were ever only going to get one, this should be it!
