A Type I - NSFK Großes NSFK-Segelfliegerabzeichen to Karl Müller (Stettin) July 18th 1938. Instituted January 26th 1942, the NSFK Large Glider Pilot Badge was awarded to distinguish advance qualification beyond the already existing NSFK advanced achievement award for gliding, as a replacement for the Silver-C stage. It is constructed out of multi-piece iron base that has been silver washed, black burnished and contains white enamel work. The round shaped obverse features three white Luftwaffe ‘gulls’ above an oak leaf and acorn wreath that has the Icarus NFSK emblem to the bottom. The reverse reads: “Eigentum des NS – Fliegerkorps”, “Ges Gesch 29240” and is numbered “740”. It also features a soldered on block hinge, rectangular wire catch and round wire pin. There are minor hairline cracks and the odd speckle to the enamel and it remain 99% intact! It measures 1 ¾ inches in diameter. In my opinion the maker is Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen. Rare and desirable.
