A Cased Spanischen Freiheitskampf Feldzugsmedaille / Medalla de la Campaña by Industrias Egaña of Motrico. The Spanish Civil War Campaign Medal 1936-1939, instituted January 26th 1937, was awarded to members of the German Condor Legions, Italian CTV and the Spanish Falangist force for outstanding military service in the fight against the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been gold plated and chemically blackened. The round shaped obverse features a Spanish lion holds in its paws a dragon (with a communist hammer and sickle on its wing), above four broad swords with a sun to the top-right and “17 Julio 1936” to the top-left, surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath. The reverse features an eagle holding out one of its wings clutching a Franco regime Spanish coat of arms in tis talons, along with a Spanish Falange (yoke and arrows) and stylized Spanish helmet which is all surrounded by: “Arriba España - Geneva. Franco Victor. - Una Grande, Libre, Imperial, M Hisp. Glor”. To the top is a soldered on ball suspension loop and ring which holds 3 inches of folded and stitched together yellow, red and black (combatant) rayon ribbon. To the top is the traditional Spanish style gilded brass bar hanger with a pin, hinge and catch assembly to the back. The award comes housed in a large lacquered paper and its original issue case. The case is constructed out of a pressed paper base that has been folded and glued together. The top reads, in blue ink: “Industrias Egaña Motrico Teléf. 464 (Guipuzcoa)”. The case shows minor tears and fold marks. It measures 3 ½ inches long by 1 ¾ inches wide by 5/8 of an inch thick. Minty and unissued!
