An Erinnerungsmedaille für die spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus mit der Papiertüte by Deschler & Sohn of München. Instituted January 3rd 1944, The German Spanish “Blue Division” Commemorative Medal was awarded to Spanish volunteers of the “Blue Division” who served in the Russian front. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc alloy base that has been bronze washed. The round shaped obverse depicts, front top to bottom; a Heer M35 helmet on a stand above two shields, the left depicts a German National Eagle the right depicts the Spanish Falange (yoke and arrows) in front of a horizontally lying broad sword, above a static swastika that is flanked by laurel leaf clusters. The reverse reads “Division Española De Voluntarios En Rusia” (Division Spanish volunteer Russia) above a 2nd Class Iron Cross and ribbon that is flanked by a laurel leaf cluster (left) and an oak leaf cluster (right). To the top is an integral loop and ring. The award has lost some of its finish. Accompanying the award is 6 inches of red, white, black and yellow rayon ribbon. The ribbon is in mint condition. The award with its tissue paper and ribbon come housed in its original issue folded paper. When folded out the paper measures 7 3/8 of an inch wide by 4 7/8 inches tall. The obverse reads, in black gothic style ink: “Erinnerungsmedaille für die spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus”. The reverse reads, in black gothic style ink: “Deschler & Sohn München 9”. A rare sight!
