Miniature Second Class Iron Cross 1870 EK Group

Here we have a Second Class Iron Cross 1870 with a "25 Jubilee Spange". The Iron Cross is constructed out of a die struck, three piece (single piece iron core and two piece silver alloy frame) construction. The obverse features a black pattee style cross with a centrally placed embossed "W" (cypher for King Wilhelm II), below a Kings crown and above "1870", all within a ribbed and flat border. The reverse shows a centrally placed oak leaf cluster, below a "FW" (cypher for King Friedrich Wilhelm III) and a Kings crown and is above "1813". The black paint is worn with some oxidation. The border has beautifully aged leaving a nice dark patina. Attached to the cross is a soldered loop and ring which holds black and white rayon ribbon. Attached to the ribbon with two prongs is a "25 Jubilee Spange". It is constructed out of a die stamped, silver-alloy construction. It depicts three oak leaves behind "25”. This exact type was sold by Godet, and probably also made by them, but also sold by other companies so without the Godet button on the reverse Ca. 32.5 x 32.5 mm oaks 17.5 x 12.5 mm 10 grams.

  • A miniature brass based and painted 1870 cross on ribbon, 23 x 28.5mm 5 grams on original ribbon with small handmade loop for wear.
  • Small example on a worn non-combatant bow ribbon with 25 year spange device. 20 x 14 mm 4 grams.
  • small example on rayon bow ribbon 26.53 x 26.5mm 6 grams mini.
