A Cased Grand Cross of Merit with Star and Sash of the Federal Republic of Germany 1955 (Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Großkreuz mit Stern und Schulterband) by Steinhauer & Lück of Lüdenscheid. Instituted September 7th 1951 and awarded for achievements that served the rebuilding of the country in the fields of political, socio-economic and intellectual activity, and is intended to mean an award of all those whose work contributes to the peaceful rise of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is a multi-piece silver based gold gilded and contains enamel work. The Grand Cross features a Federal Republic German national eagle above a red pattée style cross and a four rayed star. The full back reverse has a centrally placed disk and a pin hinge and catch assembly that is marked “ST&L” and “800” for silver content on the reverse. The Sash Cross features that same Federal Republic German national eagle above a red pattée style cross to the front and back. Comes with ribbon pin and case. Housed in original issue case. The case measures 9 ¾ inches wide by 13 ¾ long by 1 ¾ inches thick.
