Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber by L/51 E. Ferd. Wiedmann of Frankfurt. The Silver Infantry Assault Badge was awarded to foot infantrymen who had taken part in combat action on different days and met the required award criteria. It is constructed out of a die struck, zinc-alloy base that has been silver washed. The oval shaped obverse depicts a rifle and bayonet below a Heer closed winged eagle clutching a mobile swastika within its talons. This is all surrounded by an acorn and oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The full back reverse is clearly maker marked “L/51” within a rectangular border. It also correctly displays a crimped on buntmetall stamped hinge, crimped on round wire catch and a round wire pin. They all remain in well working condition. Nice silver finish. It measures approximately 2 7/16 inches tall by 1 7/8 inches wide. A rare maker marked one.
