Das an der Schleif hängende Ritterkreuz des Kriegsverdienstkreuzes (ohne Schwerter) 1939 by Steinhauer & Lück Lüdenscheid. Instituted August 19th 1940, the Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross without Swords was awarded for outstanding merit of decisive consequence for the conduct of the war. This buttonhole device with bow was intended for special occasions, as opposed to everyday use (stickpin variation). It is constructed out of die struck finely minted silver base. The obverse features a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is an integral lined arch, ring (minor bend) and loop that is attached it to the buttonhole device. The button hole holds a bowtie type black, white and red rayon ribbon. The button is marked “LDO - Steinhauer & Lück Lüdenscheid”. Beautiful condition and patina. The award measures 16mm wide by 17mm tall. Very rare!
