A Cased Imperial 1st Class Iron Cross Enamel Pin. It is constructed out of a die stamped nickel-silver base that has been silver washed and contains black and white enamel work. The obverse a pattée style cross that has a centrally placed embossed “W” (cypher for King Wilhelm II), below a Kings crown (top arm) and above “1914” (lower arm), which is on a black base and surrounded by a white border. The full back reverse is marked “W” and “Geschützt.” and has a tombak pin, hinge and catch assembly that remains in well working condition. It has a hole to the center that looks filled in to the back. It measures 1 1/8 inches wide and tall. It comes housed in a round cardstock two piece case. It has a white lacquered paper and gold foil covering. The top features an Imperial 1st Class Iron Cross emblem. The bottom is maker marked: “Ludw. Schaller Stuttgart.”. It measures 1 5/8 inches in diameter. A very unique piece!
