WWII Boris III Period, Royal Bulgarian Model 1936 Air Force Observer Badge – Bulgarian Manufacture. Worn by Bulgarian observers during WWII, along with German Luftwaffe observers who served in the Balkans with the Bulgarian airmen. Discontinued in 1944. It is a multi-piece die stamped construction with multiple materials and finishes including enamel work. The oval shaped obverse features a centrally placed eagle perched on a rock, in front of a rising sun above a mountain scene, above a Bulgarian coat of arms (crowned golden lion rampant over a dark red shield) and underneath the Bulgarian historical crown, surrounded by a half oak leaf and acorn half laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon. The hollow back reverse features a multi-piece screw back device that is maker marked. Nice detail, gilding, silver and enamel work! It measures 1 ½ inches wide by 2 ¼ inches tall. Nice!
