Abzeichen 1. Mai 1939 by Wolter of Gmünd. Introduced in 1933, the NSDAP declared May 1st the “Day of National Work” as an official state holiday to celebrate laborers and the working classes. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy based that has been silver washed. The round shaped obverse features a woman in dress holding flowers besides a national eagle (with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons), “1. Mai 1939” and a bannered “Ostmark Altreich Sudetenland” to the bottom. The full back reverse has a vertically crimped well working steel pin and is maker marked “Wolter Gmünd”. It measures approximately 1 7/16 inches in diameter. A nice piece to add to your Labor Day/May Day tinnie collection!
