Rare to find with the correct portepee! The bright blade on this one is in great condition with nice crossgrain and a beautifully executed acid etched Horster maker mark! The blade rates Exc++/NM The undented scabbard has detailed bands with the correct chased line approximately 5mm in from the front scabbard fitting edges. The fittings are all secured with headless screws. The throat is integral to the upper fitting as we see on 95% of these. The leather on the scabbard has excellent coverage and remains in beautiful condition! There are a few very small marks you usually find on these from honest period wear. You rarely find original leather in great shape. This dagger also employs the textbook aluminum fittings with upswept enhanced Customs eagle wings. The unique Customs pommel with acanthus leaves is matching in tone and patina. The leathered grip is in good shape with again honest leather wear and correctly wire wrapped with springy twisted wire. The unique Customs ferule again has the correct leaf pattern. Finally finishing this is a NM correct original pre-1945 customs portepee! A beautiful piece waiting for you to take it home!
