The Atlantic Star was awarded for six months service afloat in the Atlantic or in Home Waters within the period from September 3, 1939 to May 8, 1945. It is constructed out of a die struck brass base that has been bronze washed. The obverse depicts a six pointed star, that has a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circle containing the words "The Pacific Star". To the top is a loop and integral ring, holding approximately 3 inches of folded ribbon. The ribbon is colored, blue, green, and white. It measures approximately 1 1/2 inches wide by 2 inches tall.
