A rare Spanish War Cross Breast Star Miniature. This was instituted on January 26, 1937, amended in 1942, and awarded for military bravery. It is a multi-piece construction made of burnished nickel-silver and gilded tombak with multi-colored enamel work. The obverse features a centrally placed Spanish Coat of arms which consists of; a gold rose (on a blue round backing) surrounded by two rampant lions (on white backings) and two castles (on red pebbled translucent backing), which is surrounded by a blue line, encircled by a laurel leaf wreath that has four arrows coming out of it, which has two rampant lions (left and right), a castle (lower) and a crown and bar (top) on each arrow, with sword handles in between each arrow, that all lies on a pebbled eight pointed star. The full back reverse is silvered. To the top is an integral loop and ring which holds approximately 1 1/4 inches of white, red and yellow silk/rayon ribbon that has been folded over and stitched to a typical Spanish rectangular gilded brass bar, with a well working pin assembly to the reverse. The award measures 2/4 of an inch wide. Beautiful enamel work and gold/silver contrast. It measures 2 3/8 inches wide and tall. An extremely rare piece!
