Here we have a Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern. The 2nd Class War Merit Cross with Swords was awarded to soldiers for exceptional service in battle above and beyond the call of duty. It is constructed out of a die struck tombac base that has been bronze washed and lacquered. The obverse depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring marked, "6.", Fritz Zimmermann. It holds approximately 3 inches of black, white and red rayon ribbon. The award measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. Nice.
