A nice Kuban Campaign Arm Shield! The Kuban Shield was awarded to those who fought to preserve the bridgeheads in the Kuban region from February 1943 until they were abandoned in October. The shield shaped award is constructed out of die stamped bronze sheet metal base that has been bronze washed (with burnished highlights) and attached with four prongs to a steel plate. The obverse depicts an open winged national eagle clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, surrounded by "1943" (19 - left, 43 - right) and above a bannered "Kuban" and a jagged rectangular line separating "Krymskaja" (left), "Lagunen" (top-right) and "Novorossiysk" (bottom-right). The reverse shows the steel plate. The obverse plate has a small bend to it. It measures approximately 2 1/2 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches wide. A nice example!
