Slovakian M39 Hlinka Guard Dagger and Issue Bag

A rare dagger to come by, but to find the hanger and the original issue case… Well that’s almost impossible! This was purchased by me from the veteran’s family. This is my favorite non-German pre-1945 dagger. These guys were very nasty, they were trained by the SS and provided internal military police duties in Slovakia. They helped round up undesirables in Czech and Slovak. A very small group and numbers I think were around 3500 in total. These were the SS of the Czech Forces. Very cool…

The doubled edged, large fullered blade is in good shape. It has a nice mirror like finish, a solid fit and an nicely stamped “60”. It shows age grey, surface scratches and there is a small warp towards the tip. The steel based black painted scabbard looks great. It retains 97%+ of its original paint coverage and remains completely dent free! The copper based, copper plated scalloped scabbard finish looks great. All four screws remain intact. The copper based, copper plated guard and pommel look awesome matching the scabbard fittings perfectly. The obverse guard is stamped “HG” as it should be. The lacquered wood grip looks excellent. No crack or chips just the odd scratch throughout. The top spanner nut is unturned. Comes complete with original brown leather hanger with copper based copper plated buckle and well working clip. Housed in original issue red cloth dagger bag. The bag has one hole to the edge from the guard and to the top. A very rare veteran find!
