Here's a quality, early Model 1934 RAD EM Subordinate Hewer (Reichsarbeitsdiens Haumesser für Mannschaften und Unterführer) by Carl Julius Krebs of Solingen. The blade on this one looks to have been cleaned as the motto is lightened a bit. great. The crisp, acid etched "Arbeit adelt" motto and "RADJ Ges. Gesch. Carl Julius Krebs Solingen" maker mark are all clearly visible! The fit is perfect, and so is the tip! There are two small hits one to the cutting edge and one to the spine. It rates an easy Exc+. It shows the typical surface scratches and scuffs. The steel based, black enamel painted scabbard is looks great. It retains 99%+ paint coverage and remains completely dent-free. There is minor age spidering throughout. The nickel-silver plated and black burnished fittings provide wonderful detail, throughout the RAD logo's and decorative interweaving top patterns. All screws remain intact thought the scabbard screws may be replacements or perhaps they just used aluminum, regardless they are quite correct. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The steel based, nickel-silver plated hilt is also in beautiful condition, matching the scabbard patina perfectly perfectly! Peek at the throat and you will see it marked "Fu138" exactly matching the hilt. It retains 99% plating coverage! The stag horn grip plates have wonderfully aged, providing wonderful contrasting beige/brown colors that only time can create! There are no cracks of chips and they remain tightly secured by two steel screws. An excellent looking piece that is the right one for your collection!
