Here's a very nice example of an Officer grade Shin-gunto The 24 inch machine-made blade rates Exc++/NM. It has a nice clean cutting edge. The tip looks good and the fit is nice and tight. The tang is nicely signed and Navy marked. The scabbard is black lacquered, from what I can see, and the entire surface has a shrunken leather combat cover. The scabbard is the type without a release latch. The ashi is steel. The tsuba is a brass with decorative floral pattern. The handle is a hand fitted wooden sleeve wrapped in ray skin and wrapped again in a green twisted silk tape. The two menuki's I am unfamiliar with. Finishing this is a hilt cover in leather. It's army but civilian mounted with leather combat covers
