A WH Heeres Schirmmütze der Artillerie by Clemens Wagner of Braunschweig. It is constructed out of quality field grey doe skin wool, with a dark green center band and red piping. Attached to the obverse is a die stamped, zinc alloy based, silver washed army cap eagle and multi piece tricolor cockade and silvered wreath. To the sides are two peened on steel black enamel side buttons that hold the blackened leather chin cord in place. The front also features a black lacquered visor peak with a cross hatched light brown underside. The interior features a nicely secured tan sweatband with perforations to the forehead and a silk bow tie to the reverse. Underneath the sweat band it is sized but illegible, it may be 58. The base of the lining has a clear moisture shield (that holds 10% of its stitching) over the manufacturers logo which reads, in brown: “Erstklassig CW Michael Hollfelder Uniformen & Effekten Andbach am Schloss”, on a yellow silk rayon blend base. There is sweat staining throughout and minor moth nips to the piping. A great saddle shape. A beautiful display piece!
