A Kreigsmarine Flottenkriegsabzeichen mit Miniatur im Etui by C. Schwerin & Sohn of Berlin. The Navy High Seas Fleet Badge was awarded for service to the crews of battleships, cruisers and other supporting naval ships who met the specific award criteria (along with those who were killed in action). It is constructed out of a die-struck tombak base that has been gold gilded and chemically blackened. The obverse features a frontal view of a battle ship, cutting through waves, which is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings clutching a mobile swastika within its talons) and is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The concave full-back reverse is correctly designer and maker marked: “Fec. Adolf Bock Ausf. Schwerin Berlin”. It also displays the correct tombak; soldered on flatwire catch, coke bottle pin and soldered on block hinge. The gilded highlights, blackening and details look wonderful! It measures 2 1/4 inches high by 1 ¾ inches wide. Included with the badge is the stickpin. The full back reverse is maker marked “L/57” (Boerger & Co. of Berlin) and features a soldered on and knurled stickpin. The face measures ½ inch wide by 5/8 of an inch tall. Both the badge and stickpin are housed in its case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained blue leatherette. The interior of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a blue felt material. The base has a recess that outlines a pin, hinge and catch assembly and has a loop for the stickpin. There is wear evidence of another stickpin in the case at some point as well. There are scuffs throughout. The dual hinge and press button continue to work well. It measures 4 1/8 inches wide by 3 3/16 inches deep by 13/16 of an inch thick. A rare assembly!
