A Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer mit Miniatur im Etui by C.E. Juncker of Berlin. The Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge was awarded for a proven successful long distance operation on an Auxiliary Cruiser (or supply ships that supported them). It is constructed out of two-pieces of die struck tombak that have been gold gilded and silver washed and black burnished. The oval shaped obverse features a man standing in a Viking long ship, with its sail set, on a world globe, cruising on the Atlantic Ocean. This is all below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with outstretched wings clutching a swastika within its talons) and is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The full back reverse shows a round head rivet, soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on tombak round wire catch and nickel-silver coke bottle pin. It features wonderful detail, silvering and gold gilding! It measures 1 ¾ inches wide by 2 ¼ inches tall. Accompanying the badge is a zinc based gold gilded and grey painted stickpin. The reverse features a soldered on round wire pin. The face measures ½ inch wide by 11/16 of an inch tall. Both the badge and the stickpin are housed in its case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained blue leatherette. The interior of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a blue felt material. The base has a recess that outlines a pin, hinge and catch assembly along with a loop for the stickpin. There are scuffs throughout and the exterior leather hinge has torn through. It measures 2 7/8 inches wide by 3 3/16 inches deep by 7/8 of an inch thick. A rare assembly!
