An Olympia Ehrenzeichen 2. Klasse 1936 im Etui mit Nadel Miniatur. The 2nd Class German Olympic was instituted February 4th 1936 and was bestowed on German nationals and foreign personnel for special merits in the executive organization activity of the 11th Summer (Berlin) and 4th Winter (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) Olympic games. It is a constructed out of two pieces of die struck tombak that had been gold fire gilded and contain white enamel work and is finished with a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features the five Olympic rings (in white) above a five-pointed white star and five golden lined bars all be low a white German National eagle (with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed mole swastika in its talons). The full back reverse is gold and shows two rivets that attach the Olympic rings. To the top is a ring that goes through the eagle’s head that holds 3 inches of the appropriate red, white and black rayon ribbon. To the reverse top is a stitched on well working gilded tombak pin assembly. The award measures 2 1/8 inches wide by 2 ¾ inches tall. The award comes housed in its appropriate issue case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained white leather (Lederimitat). To the front is a rectangular gilded steel push button. To the back is a gilded steel, staggered, piano hinge. The push button and hinge continue to work well. To the top-center is the five Olympic rings emblem along with a thin gold border. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a grey velvet material that has a recessed hole for the pin assembly. There is a tin satin covered exterior border to the bottom. The interior top is constructed out of a pink satin material and has an underlying pad. The case measures 2 7/8 inches wide and 5 inches deep and 1 inch thick. Included with this is a rare miniature lapel pin version. The reverse of it is marked “835” (silver content designation) and the manufacturers marking “Gebr. Godet & Co. Berlin”. A gorgeous example sure to please!
