United States Army Non-Commissioned Officer’s Sword, Civil War vintage, by The Ames Manufacturing Co., Chicopee Mass. Straight 32" bright blade, with one large fuller. Several nicks to cutting edge. Solid cast brass grip assembly consisting of globular shaped pommel, ribbed grip, large knuckle bow with bi-lobed guard finished with a finial. Red buffer pad is in place. Scabbard is black leather with brass drag throat piece with frog stud. Scabbard leather shows repair above the drag. This also causes a noticeable tight fit. Obverse blade is stamped “US ADK 1863”. The reverse blade is stamped "Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee Mass." in a banner. The knuckle bow and scabbard drag are inspector-marked “CHV”.
