Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz 1939 mit Besitzzeugnis - Awarded to Obgefr. Mollwitz. The Black Wound Badge was awarded to those who were wounded once or twice by hostile action (including air raids), or frostbitten in the line of duty. It is constructed out of a die stamped steel base that has been black painted and lacquered. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M35 pattern helmet, which is again above two crossed broad swords. This all lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The hollow back reverse shows the appropriate pin, hinge and catch assembly all of which are in well-working condition. In my opinion it has been re-painted at some point. It measures 1 3/4 inches high by 1 1/2 inches wide. Accompanying the award is the appropriate earlier version of the Award Document. It is constructed out of a thick paper base that has been black ink printed in gothic style script: “Besitzzeugnis Dem (Name, Dienstgrad) (Truppenteil, Dienststelle) Ist auf Grund seiner am erlittene maligen Verwunddug order Beschadigung das Verwundetenabzeichen in verliehen worden. Den 19 (Unterschrift) (Dienstgrad und Dienststelle)”. And hand written with the appropriate name, date and signature along with the seal. The reverse shows a horizontal strip of tape on the fold and the exterior shows a ribbed folded over tape. It measures 8 1/16 inches tall by 5 ¾ inches wide.
