A Fallschirmschützenabzeichen der Luftwaffe by Friedrich Linden of Lüdenscheid - ‘Type C’ with 2nd Pattern Eagle. The Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge was awarded to those who had successfully completed the paratrooper training course, consisting of physical and psychological tests along with six qualifying parachute jumps. The two-piece construction badge features a die struck finezinc based and gold gilded eagle with a die struck finezinc based blackened wreath. The oval shaped obverse depicts a diving Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a swastika within its talons, and is above by a blackened half laurel leaf and berry, half oak leaf and acorn wreath. The reverse features two zinc rivets, the soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on tombak oval plate c-shaped catch and nickel-silver round wire pin. The finish has been absorbed by the zinc. It measures 1 5/8 inches wide by 2 1/8 inches high. See page 218-222 of T Durante’s “The German Luftwaffe and Heer Paratrooper Badges of World War II” reference book. A fine example.
