Early Japanese Navy Dirk

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

This is a high quality 1883 patterned WWII Imperial Japanese Naval officer dirk with upolished shark-skin. This example is of early construction with machine made 9" blade. The blade is minty with no need for excuses. No sharpening or damage, a nice example. The crossguard is brass with traces of gilt remaining. Peek underneath and you will see a proof mark. The grip is triple brass wire wrapped over real ray skin. All grip wire and fittings to include the brass cherry blossom on either side are intact and quite nice! The saya (scabbard) is wood with polished shark skin cover. there is a clearly shown section where the skin is missing. Both fittings have nice detail. The lock works perfectly.
