A very decent example out of an advanced collection! The bright cleaned blade on this one looks good. The crisp acid etched "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" motto is nice and dark! The blade has been cleaned and some crossgrain remains visible. The tip comes to a perfect point and it continues to hold a nice and tight fit! There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued from the factory. The blade rates an Exc+. The steel based black anodized scabbard body on this one looks great. Previous owner had it reanodized and relacquered. It has a wee dent to the lower obverse. The steel based nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings look great! They remain nice and bright, with just the common spotting and patina. The ball has taken a wee bump but generally retains it's original shape. All six screws remain intact. The chain is the later Type II variation. The chain links show crisp detail to the skulls and SS runes! It's really something when you look at the skulls and you can see each individual teeth! The correct reverse first upper link is clearly "SS" proof marked. A few of the connectors have been twisted and have broken solder, This is very common and likely the reason for the strengthened connectors used with the Type I. The clip continues to work well. The scabbard to crossguard fit is fine. The zinc-alloy based, plated crossguards show some wear and have been polished by the previous owner. They show some plating loss the worse being to the upper. The black hardwood grip is chip and crack-free. There are a few common pressure marks. The nickel eagle is beautifully detailed. The SS roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel! A great piece at a great price!
