Early Japanese Navy Dirk

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

This is a superb 1883 pattern Imperial Japanese Naval Officer Dirk with all the features guys want! The single fullered blade on this one is about as good as it gets. The fit is snug and the tip is perfectly pointed! The blade rates NM. It has a faux temper line. Really nice to see as we only see the feature on less than 5% of these. The blade measures approx 8 1/4 inches long,(measured from the habaki). The black saya (scabbard) is wood based and covered in polished shark-skin with very fine grain. Looks great with almost all the lacquer remaining! The saya has two brass based scalloped fittings. They show wonderful detail with several leaves and cherry blossoms throughout. The top clip works well! The brass based gilded crossguard looks good. All the fittings are brass and nicely detailed with random pebbling a cherry blossom and leaves. The grip is tightly triple brass wire wrapped, over a white pebbled ray skin. It has two cherry blossoms over the mekugi (peg). A great example of a Japanese Naval dirk.
