A Kreigsmarine Flottenkriegsabzeichen by Friedrich Orth of Wien - Variation I. The Navy High Seas Fleet Badge was awarded for service to the crews of battleships, cruisers and other supporting naval ships who met the specific award criteria (along with those who were killed in action). It is constructed out of a die-struck zinc base that has been gold gilded and chemically blackened. The obverse depicts a frontal view of a battle ship, cutting through waves, which is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings clutching a mobile swastika within its talons) and is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The concave full-back reverse is maker marked: “Fo” along with a square punch as seen on page 178 of “The Kriegsmarine Awards - Volume III” book by Weber and Skora. It also displays the correct; soldered on tombak round wire catch, soldered on sheet metal hinge and steel round wire pin. The finish has been lost to time and there is wear to the high spots. It measures 2 1/4 inches high by 1 ¾ inches wide.
