A Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold by L/13 - Paul Meybauer of Berlin. The Gold Wound Badge, instituted September 1st 1939, was awarded for five or more times wounded, loss of limbs, total blindness, “loss of manhood”, or severe brain damage via hostile action. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been gold gilded. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M35 pattern helmet, which is above two crossed broad swords. This then lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The full back reverse is maker marked “L/13” and features a soldered on tombak round plate c-shaped catch, a soldered on tombak block hinge and a tombak round wire pin. All components remain well-working condition. The badge measures 1 3/4 inches high by 1 1/2 inches wide. A nice one!
