A Verwundetenabzeichen Condor Legion in Silber. The Condor Legion Wound Badge was instituted on May 22nd 1939 and was awarded “As an honoring symbol of remembrance for those German volunteers who were wounded or damaged by enemy weapons while putting down Bolshevism in the Spanish war of liberation as members of the Legion Condor or in connection with their service and combat action with the German Navy in Spanish waters.”. The Silver Wound Badge was awarded to those who were wounded three or four times by hostile action (including air raids), or frostbitten in the line of duty. It is constructed out of a die stamped alloy base that has been silver washed and lacquered. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an Imperial M16 pattern helmet, which is again above two crossed broad swords. This all lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The hollow back reverse shows the appropriate pin, hinge and catch assembly all of which are in well-working condition. The badge measures 1 11/16 inches high by 1 1/2 inches wide.
