2nd Class War Merit Cross in Issue Packet by 1

A 2. Klasse Kriegsverdienstkreuz ohne Schwerter in Verleihungstüte by Deschler & Sohn of München. he 2nd Class War Merit Cross without Swords, which was given to civilians who performed meritorious service behind the lines. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed. The obverse depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed mobile swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring that is maker marked “1” (Deschler & Sohn, Munchen). The award measures approximately 1 7/8 inches square. Accompanying the award is; 9 5/8 inches of black, white and red rayon ribbon and issue packet. The packet is constructed out of tan brown paper that has been folded and glued together. The packer reads, in black gothic style ink: “Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse ohne Schwerter” (obverse) and “Deschler & Sohn Munchen 9” (reverse). It measures 2 1/4 inches wide by 4 1/8 inches tall. A wonderful matching assembly!
