An early Stern des Deutschen Adlerordens by Gebr. Godet & Co. of Berlin. The Order of Merit of the German Eagle, was instituted May 1st 1937, and was awarded by Hitler to foreign nationals who had made a meritorious contribution to the German Reich on the recommendation of the Reich Minister for Foreign Affairs. It is a multi-piece construction, made out of a die struck 900 silver content base that have been silvered along with a tombak based gilded and enameled cross with eagles all behind a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features a Maltese style white cross that has four national eagles between each arm of the cross and lays on a six-pointed emanating silvered star. The reverse correctly features two hollow rivets, a c-shaped hinge, half moon catch and pin assembly. The pin is marked “900” (silver content designation and early). The enamel is in wonderful condition. Nice gold gilding. The reverse has been cleaned. The star measures 65mm wide and 75mm tall. A nice award.
