WWI Air Gunner Carl Rasch Medal Grouping

Very rare to find a WWI flying group all together anymore. Obtained from a friend of the family. This group consists of:

  • A nice studio picture of Carl
  • A group of his WWI Service awards including a 800 marked Air Gunner badge, an EKII, a cut-out Black Wound Badge, (I was told he was wounded by shrapnel in his hand) and a couple Veteran badges
  • 21 post WWI sport badges mostly for skiing and cycling.
  • Flying school book full of hand written entries, quite honestly I can't read this but likely a German could interpret it. There are some drawing and technical drawings.
  • Remnants of a banner carried in his plane while flying as a good luck piece. Quite honestly this banner is silk and near destroyed it's falling apart. Included is a translation of its' inscription: "Free! like a flyer's heart roaring high. Your heart shall also be while you are wandering with a song."
  • Finally there is his WWI Flare gun. I'm including a few other small hand written notes that were included with the group.
