Herman Wirth The Oera Linda Chronicle or Oera Linda Manuscript (OLH) was presented to the public in book form in 1872 by the Dutchman Jan Ottema (1804-1879) as an ancient family tradition of the Frisian family Over de Linden. Because of its unbelievable content, it has been dismissed as a fake since its appearance. When an examination of the paper of the manuscript revealed an age of "younger than 1850", the discovery of the forgery seemed sealed. However, there were inconsistencies early on; Cornelis over de Linden (1811–1874), who wanted to have found the family chronicle in his house, reported to his superior about his finding of the tradition as early as 1848, but it was not until 1867 that he went public with it and found the publisher Jan Ottema. It has always been undisputed that the content of the chronicle must have been copied or compiled from individual older traditions and that the content must have been subjected to various adjustments. However, in view of the traditions that appear in the OLH and that were only known or discovered in the course of the 20th century, a true source core, i.e. the actual existence of old traditions, appeared to many to be not excluded. Since the beginning of the 1920s, Herman Wirth campaigned for the authenticity of the sources and in 1933 published a new edition of the OLH, but in his opinion he selected added passages from "real" ones and thus shortened the original. In a discussion by scientists about the "Chronicle" followed with great interest by the public in 1934, various luminaries - including Gustav Neckel - spoke out against the authenticity. 417 pages, numerous pictures in the appendix.
